Travemünde is the longest feeder crossing on any route to Bornholm - around nine hours to Trelleborg - and that is the point of it. Taken overnight with a cabin, the sea leg replaces both a driving day and a hotel night, and you wake up 55 kilometres from Ystad and the fast ferry to Rønne. Leg one: Travemünde to Trelleborg
TT-Line runs the route year-round with around three departures a day. Crossing times are around nine hours, with the slower sailings closer to ten and a half - a spread wide enough that it is worth checking the actual time of the sailing you are booking rather than assuming an average.
Book a cabin for the night crossings. It is the difference between arriving rested and arriving having spent a night in a reclining seat, and in the summer weeks cabins go first.
Leg two: Trelleborg to Ystad by road
About 55 kilometres on the E6 and E65, roughly 45 minutes. Arriving in the morning, this short hop usually leaves a genuine choice among the day's departures to Rønne rather than a single one you have to catch.
Leg three: Ystad to Rønne
80 minutes on the fast ferry, up to six departures a day in each direction in the high season, around four in the quieter months. The terminal is on the eastern edge of Ystad, signposted from the E65.
Making the connection
A nine-hour crossing has more room to run late than a 45-minute one, so leave the buffer on the Swedish side. Bornholmslinjen expects you to be checked in ten minutes before departure in Ystad, and that deadline stands whatever happened at sea.
With a morning arrival in Trelleborg, aiming for a Rønne departure around midday rather than the first one of the day costs little and absorbs almost anything the night crossing can throw at you.

TT-Line sells the Trelleborg crossing, Bornholmslinjen the Bornholm one. Separate bookings, separate operators, no protection across the two. If your dates are fixed, book the Bornholm leg first and then choose the sailing from Travemünde around it.
